Episode #010 – Pros and Cons of doing Foster Care
In this episode we talk with our first guest, our 6 year old son Parker, about the Pros and the Cons of doing foster care through his eyes.
-Always having someone around to play toys with him. (This only really happens when we have foster kids who are near the same age as our bio kids).
-Having people to play video games with. (This usually doesn’t matter the age of our foster kids, unless Parker wants to play a much younger person video game. They almost all like to play Minecraft and Lego games).
-Having people to play Nerf Wars along with the other people in the neighborhood.
-It’s hard to have to share his toys with a lot of people.
-They can beat you up. (Although this doesn’t happen at least very often in our home).
Make sure to spend time alone with your bio kids and help build and maintain your relationships with your own kids. We like to take a break when our foster kids have overnight visits and go out of town and go swimming.
Parker loves the Hyatt Escala Lodge in Park City, Utah, which was a pretty awesome hotel to stay at.
We don’t take the break because we don’t like our foster kids, but this gives us some time to relax and rejuvenate and spend extra time with our bio kids.
Parker’s advice for being good parents: Spend time with both of us and have more family meetings with treats, he likes Root beer or Sherbet floats.
Thanks so much for listening.
